Difficult and easy interview questions.

Difficult and easy interview questions.

Interview questions are often quite daunting unless you know what lies behind the questions. The difficult ones seem easy and the easy ones difficult. Let me give you a couple of examples.

"Why do we need managers?" “Crikey,” I hear you respond, “that's a difficult one – you could answer that in dozens of different ways.” But what if I told you they are not looking for a specific answer: it's really about how you think on your feet, how you string together a sequence of thoughts and ideas in a cogent, logical and convincing manner without too many stumbles. The question is not about “managers”, it’s about an assessment of your communication skills.

"Take me through a typical working day?" You might think this is easy. In reality however it's quite tricky, because the interviewer is looking for specific content. It's about “how” you do what you do. It's about your soft skills, your values, your personality. It will depend on the job description but typically they might be assessing whether you are well organised, able to prioritise, consultative, time conscious, a team player.

Clearly 'difficult and easy questions' is a great topic to discuss with your mentor. #interviewskills #interviewpreparation #careermanagement#mentoring
