You're wrong - gender bias doesn't just appear in your pay gap reporting.
I'll tell you where you can find it.

Most people think bias happens when we hire.

Or when we promote.

Or when we talk about the gender pay gap.

But the truth is, it’s not pay.

It’s not hiring.

It’s not even leadership representation anymore, because for the most part, we’ve hit a 50/50 balance in mid-tier leadership roles across many industries.

So... where does it live?


Performance reviews.

Particularly when someone is underperforming.

Because that’s when leaders get stressed.

They’re pressed for time.

They default to instinct.

And instinct is built on bias.


Let me be clear...

This isn’t about sex discrimination.

It’s not JUST about obvious unlawful behaviour.

This is about those hidden biases.

The unconscious differences in how we treat people based on gender roles, assumptions, and expectations.

And they creep in like this:

↳ “He’s assertive. She’s aggressive.”
↳ “He’s under pressure. She’s overwhelmed.”
↳ “He has potential. She needs coaching.”
↳ “He deserves a second chance. She’s on her final warning.”

No one writes these down.

But they shape decisions.

And those decisions shape careers.
