Uh-oh! HR firm Bright HR loses a maternity discrimination case. This just proves what I've been saying all along.....
Let's dissect the case:
Saleswoman Sarah Lindup returned from maternity leave only to be given a significantly lower-paid role
and excluded from her previous team (despite having a £1.3 M track record).
So, she proceeds to raising the issue to her managers.
When she raised it, her managers response was this...
with a laugh...
during a “mum-to-mum chat”.
The tribunal found it was maternity discrimination under Section 18 despite Bright HR being a specialist HR provider with policies in place.
Let that sink in:
➔ Bright HR coaches businesses on compliance and culture
➔ They have compliant maternity policies
➔ Yet they failed to prevent discrimination after maternity leave
Why, and how?
Because HR systems can be perfect on paper, but usually fail the moment ambiguous leadership behaviour and unchecked bias meets a REAL-LIFE scenario.
No malicious intent required.
Just a gap between policy and perception.
That’s exactly why I approach HR in the way we do at HR Habitat.
Not to just write policies.
But to diagnose risks before they cost you.
We’ve built tools like:
⟶ Gender Equity Diagnostics
⟶ Performance Review Risk Scorecards
⟶ A framework to detect invisible bias across leadership behaviours
⟶ And even further, we host many workshops to help you uncover and unpack all potential gender biases in your people management.
Because out of all the things that could go wrong...
Gender biases is the hardest to spot and the most common issue we see.
So, if you want to know how to spot gender bias gaps in your leadership/workplace,
and more importantly, how to eradicate them,
then secure a spot in our upcoming workshop on 14th Aug at 11:00, here https://lnkd.in/eSghkFbi
You’ll walk away with real-world insights, including:
✔️ Where even top-tier HR fails
✔️ How leadership tone and light comments can become legal risk
✔️ What’s not in the handbook, but still matters
✔️ How to read behaviour, not just policy
Are you paying for HR support... that doesn’t see what’s hidden?
